FAQs!

        Welcome, Book Buggie! (^.^)

You’ve got questions—I’ve got answers (and probably too many exclamation points).  Whether you’re just starting your story journey or you’ve already wrangled a full cast of characters, this is the cozy corner for figuring out how Book Buggie Coaching works.

Take a peek through the sections below to learn more about starting sessions, meeting your characters, editing support, and all those little nuts-and-bolts details that keep things running smoothly.

🐞 The Starting Line

(Getting Started with Book Coaching)

1). Question: What if all I have is an idea for a story?
Answer: Great! We can start with anything! Your best bet would be to start with our 15-minute General Consultation to begin fleshing out your idea.

2). Question: What is a WIP??
Answer: WIP stands for Work in Progress—the project you intend to complete before other ones. You may have more than one going at a time, and that’s perfectly okay! Just know that you’ll need to pick one to focus on before scheduling your session.

3). Question: Why do you need a Character Intake on a Google Doc?
Answer: Google Docs allows you, the beloved Book Buggie, to retain access to your interview notes anytime you need them! With the Tabs feature, we can revisit the same document to conduct interviews with other characters later—whether they’re from your current WIP or another project entirely.

4). Question: How do I book a session?
Answer: Easy-peasy, buggy-squeezy! 🐞 Head to my Services & Payment Options page, choose your session type, and follow the booking link. You’ll get a confirmation email with all the details (and probably a few exclamation marks).

5). Question: What if I’m nervous or don’t know where to start?
Answer: That’s perfectly okay—most of my Book Buggies feel that way at first! That’s why we start small: one character, one scene, or one idea at a time. I’ll help you find your footing and your story’s heartbeat.

🎭 Meet the Characters

(Character Interviews & Coaching)

6). Question: What IS a Character Interview??
Answer: A Character Interview is a 6–10 question session directed at one of your characters! You’ll pick the character you need to know more about, open a Google Doc, answer a short Character Intake, and then schedule your Character Interview. It’s like therapy for your fictional friends—minus the copay!

7). Question: Can I bring multiple characters to one session?
Answer: Character Interviews work best one at a time! You’re welcome to schedule separate sessions for each character—or, if you’re feeling brave, try a World-Jumping Character Interview™ Workshop where characters from different worlds can meet each other. (Chaos optional, fun guaranteed.)

8). Question: What if my manuscript is already fully written? Do I still need a book coach?
Answer: Well, heck, you did fluffystuffing amazing!!! 🎉 Finishing your manuscript is a monumental step! You may not need a Character Interview or General Consultation, but we Book Buggies also offer Developmental Editing, and you’re welcome to try that out next!

9). Question: Do you work with new writers?
Answer: Absolutely! You don’t need to be published—or even finished—to start. My sessions are designed to help writers of all experience levels grow their stories and confidence.

✏️ The Editing Den

(Editing & Publishing Support)

10). Question: Do you help with the publishing process?
Answer: While we’d love to cover every aspect of publishing, our current operations focus on services up through developmental editing. However, if you’d like guidance about self-publishing, just schedule a 15-minute General Consultation and specify that it’s for self-publishing questions!

11). Question: What’s included in a sample developmental edit?
Answer: A sample developmental edit gives you a small taste of what a full edit would look like. I’ll review a section of your manuscript for one 15-minute session, and provide constructive feedback on story structure, character development, pacing, and clarity—so you can see how my editing style fits your needs before diving deeper.

📅 Nuts, Bolts, and Bug Bits

(Policies, Scheduling, and Practicalities)

12). Question: What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Answer: No problem! Life happens. Just try to let me know at least 24 hours ahead. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice have a $15 fee (first one’s on the house!).

13). Question: Do you offer group sessions or workshops?
Answer: I sure do! My World-Jumping Character Interview™ Workshops let multiple authors bring their characters into one shared space to interact, problem-solve, and stir up some delightful storytelling chaos.

Now, I know your characters wanna know some things too, so not to worry! I’ve gathered a few answers for them right here. (Yes, they can read this part. I triple-checked.)

Whether they’re trying to figure out how these “interviews” work, wondering if they’re allowed to bring snacks, or just want reassurance that I won’t make them fight their author—this is their safe space to get curious.

🐞 The Starting Line (Getting Oriented)

1. Question: What is a Character Interview?
Answer: A Character Interview is like a chance for your author to sit down and chat with you—yes, you! They’ll ask 6–10 questions to learn more about your thoughts, feelings, backstory, and quirks. Don’t worry, you get to answer as yourself, not how your author thinks you should.

2. Question: Do I have to be perfect?
Answer: Absolutely not! This isn’t a test. We want the real you—the quirks, the habits, the secrets. Honest answers help your author make your story shine.

3. Question: What if I don’t know my own backstory yet?
Answer: No worries! That’s exactly what these interviews help uncover. Sometimes the best stories come from answers you didn’t even know you had.

🎭 Meet the Characters (Interactions & Development)

4. Question: Can I meet other characters in the interview?
Answer: Sometimes! If your author signs up for a World-Jumping Character Interview™ Workshop, you might get to meet other characters from different stories. Be ready for chaos, fun, and possibly mischief.

5. Question: Will my author always understand me?
Answer: Maybe not at first! That’s okay. The goal of the interview is to give your author insight into who you really are, so the more you share, the better your story grows.

6. Question: Can I ask my author questions during the interview?
Answer: Definitely! If there’s something you need clarified or if you’re curious about their plans for you, speak up. Think of it as a two-way conversation—authors love it when you’re engaged!

7. Question: Can I “suggest” what happens in my story?
Answer: Of course! Think of this as your chance to gently nudge your author in directions you think are cool. While they may not take every suggestion, your input might spark a scene you’ll love.

8. Question: Can I complain about my author if I want?
Answer: Absolutely! Constructive whining is welcome here. Your author can’t fix what they don’t know, and honestly, a little playful grumbling often leads to plot gold.

9. Question: Do I have to answer every question seriously?
Answer: Nope! Feel free to be serious, silly, sarcastic, or even dramatic. The more authentic you are, the more fun the interview—and the story—becomes.

✏️ The Editing Den (Feedback & Growth)

10. Question: Will they change me in the story?
Answer: Possibly, but that’s part of storytelling! Your answers help your author make choices that fit the story. Think of it as a collaboration—you’re guiding the journey, not being overwritten.

11. Question: Can I see what my author writes about me afterward?
Answer: You sure can! Since all interviews are on a shared Google Doc, you can peek anytime to see how your story is shaping up and maybe even leave notes for future interviews.

12. Question: What happens if I change my mind mid-interview?
Answer: No worries! You can revise your answers anytime in the shared Google Doc. Storytelling is a journey, not a one-time test.

13. Question: Will I get to see the final story?
Answer: Absolutely, eventually! Part of the magic of being a Book Buggie character is knowing that your answers are shaping the story. The sooner you’re engaged, the more you’ll influence your world.

14. Question: Can I leave secret hints for future sessions?
Answer: Yes! Think of it as leaving little easter eggs for your author. They might not notice them immediately, but future interviews could unlock some fun surprises.
